Rastriya Swatantra Party Convenes to Appoint Balen Shah as Parliamentary Party Leader

Kathmandu. A meeting of the Central Committee and Parliamentary Party of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has begun to appoint senior leader Balen Shah as the party's leader. The meeting, held today at the central office in Vanasthali, is set to ratify the proposal to unanimously make Balen the party leader. Before the parliamentary party meeting, the RSP Central Committee meeting had unanimously passed the proposal by Chairman Rabi Lamichhane to make Balen the parliamentary leader.

There was an agreement made before the election to nominate him as the future Prime Ministerial candidate. Article 76(1) of the Constitution of Nepal stipulates that the President shall appoint the leader of the parliamentary party that secures a majority as the Prime Minister. In accordance with the Constitution, the RSP has selected the party leader by consensus to make Balen the Prime Minister. General Secretary Kavindra Burlakoti informed that the decision to select him as the party leader will be sent to the Office of the President today itself.
