Prime Minister Karki Hails General Election as New Chapter for Constitutional System

Kathmandu. Prime Minister Sushila Karki stated that the House of Representatives election held on Falgun 21 has opened a new chapter in safeguarding the country's constitutional system and strengthening democratic values and norms.

Addressing a reception organized by the Election Commission on Wednesday, Prime Minister Karki portrayed the successful completion of the election in a free, fair, and peaceful manner within the stipulated time, despite difficult and challenging circumstances, as a historic achievement.

The Prime Minister noted that the government successfully fulfilled its primary responsibility of holding the election amidst the complex security situation and political deadlock following the 'Genji rebellion' last Bhadra.

'When we took responsibility, there was a kind of legal and political vacuum in the country, but we succeeded in bringing the country back onto the path of the constitution and democracy by completing the elections within 6 months,' the Prime Minister stated.

At the ceremony, Prime Minister Karki expressed gratitude to the security agencies, civil servants, political parties, media personnel, and the international community for their support in making the election successful. She congratulated the newly elected representatives and wished them a successful tenure, expressing confidence that the path ahead will be one of prosperity as the general voters have given a clear mandate for a stable government and good governance.

She praised the professional efficiency demonstrated by the Commission under the leadership of Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari during the program. The event was attended by the President, Vice President, Chief Justice, heads of various constitutional bodies, and representatives of diplomatic missions.
