Border Expert Urges New Government to Prioritize Resolving Territorial Disputes

Kathmandu. Senior border expert Buddhi Narayan Shrestha has stated that the upcoming government must prioritize resolving border disputes.

Speaking at a program organized in Kathmandu on Tuesday, he mentioned that previous governments failed to make progress in solving Nepal's border issues. He suggested that the incoming government of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) should place border-related matters on the highest priority. He noted that despite the unveiling of the 'Chuchche' map showing Lipulekh, Kalapani, and Limpiyadhura, the land has not been reclaimed. He emphasized the need for the new government to raise the border issue strongly with India and take it to formal negotiations.

He stated that the RSP's election manifesto also includes a commitment to resolve border problems, and the party should proceed accordingly. He stressed that the encroached territories, including Lipulekh, Kalapani, and Limpiyadhura, must be reclaimed through diplomatic means.

He asserted that there is ample evidence proving those areas belong to Nepal. Shrestha added that negotiations are necessary not only with India but also with China to resolve the border disputes.
