Barcelona Edges Past Rayo Vallecano to Solidify La Liga Lead

Barcelona. Catalan club Barcelona has further strengthened its grip on the top spot of La Liga by narrowly defeating Rayo Vallecano at their home ground, Camp Nou. In a tight 1-0 victory on Sunday night, Hansi Flick's team temporarily extended their lead over second-placed Real Madrid to seven points. However, this gap reduced back to four points after Real Madrid defeated Atletico Madrid 3-2 in another match played on the same Sunday.

Barcelona took the lead in the 24th minute when Ronald Araujo converted a corner taken by Joao Cancelo with an excellent header. However, the visiting team, Rayo Vallecano, missed a great opportunity to take the lead in the very first minute of the match.

Barcelona goalkeeper Jon Garcia thwarted Carlos Martin's shot from 6 yards by coming out in time. This was the only shot on target for Rayo in the first half. In the first half, a powerful shot by Raphinha was brilliantly saved by Rayo's goalkeeper, Agustin Batalla, hitting the crossbar.
