Nepali Congress Rejects Gagan Thapa's Resignation from Post of General Secretary

Kathmandu. Gagan Thapa's resignation from the post of General Secretary has been rejected. The Nepali Congress Central Working Committee meeting held on Sunday decided to reject Thapa's resignation.

Deputy General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma informed that the Central Working Committee unanimously decided to reject the resignation that Thapa submitted to the Deputy General Secretary on Magh 21, taking moral responsibility for the results of the House of Representatives election, as per Article 26(1) of the statute.

These are the eight grounds for the rejection of the resignation 

• The main reasons for the election defeat were structural problems and circumstances beyond control.
• It was felt that the leadership of Chairman Thapa is even more necessary in the current complex national situation.
• Accepting the resignation would likely cause unnecessary instability, uncertainty, and a drop in worker morale within the party.
• Since the resignation was a moral and voluntary matter, not mandatory, it was deemed appropriate to respect it by rejecting it.
• It is based on the principle of collective responsibility and the principle of the necessity of stability in party leadership. 
• The continuity of the reform program (Congress 2.0) initiated after the Special General Convention needs to be maintained. 
• There is a need to focus the party towards the upcoming 15th General Convention.
• The decision was made unanimously by the full meeting of the Central Working Committee.
