Electricity Reaches Remote Area in Dang, Bringing Relief to Residents

Dang. Electricity access has finally reached Saigha, located in Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City-19, Dang. Local residents are delighted with the expansion of electrical services.

According to Dhan Bahadur Sarki, a local resident of Saigha Boldinga, the arrival of electricity in the village has brought immense relief. He stated that his home received electricity service about a month ago. "We used to live in darkness. Children had to study under the light of kerosene lamps or solar power," he said, "It is much more convenient now that the lights are on at home."

He mentioned that previously, they had to travel to a village about 30 minutes away just to charge their mobile phones. This problem has now ended with electricity reaching the village. It was also difficult to arrange light at night when someone in the house fell ill. He still remembers the time they had to bring a solar lamp from Ghorahi market when a family member was sick.

He complained that despite living within the Sub-Metropolitan City, they felt neglected due to the lack of basic services. According to locals, operating small businesses was also difficult without electricity. Tasks such as running mills, tailoring, computer services, and welding were impossible. Now, things are somewhat easier. Locals say that an environment is being created where the youth can start ventures within the village.

Ward Chairman Gyan Bahadur Rayamajhi of Ghorahi-19 stated that work is underway with the goal of extending electricity service to all settlements in the ward. He mentioned that he has been actively pursuing this. He shared that after his election, the electrification work began in the year 2079 BS with a contract worth NPR 3 crore 67 lakh being called for.

Prior attempts to achieve this goal had not materialized. He informed that work was continued through another contract process towards the end of the year 2080 BS to bring electricity to the remaining areas. However, he noted that the plan could not move forward effectively because the contractor company failed to complete the work on time. Chairman Rayamajhi stated that this caused problems for their plan to quickly bring electricity to citizens' homes.

According to him, electricity is now running in many settlements in Saigha, but services have not yet reached settlements including Lithan, Satam, Dandagaun, Panchpokhari, and Dhanchaur. He said they are pressuring for the work in those areas to be completed quickly. The expectation of the locals, however, is that attention should now be paid to other infrastructure development alongside electricity. They stated that since this ward is a hilly region, improvements are also necessary in the sectors of roads, drinking water, health services, and education.
