Government Directs Local Levels to Launch Dengue Awareness Campaigns as Heat Rises

Kathmandu. The government has directed local levels, identified as high-risk areas for Dengue, to conduct awareness programs as the summer season begins this year as well.

Dr. Gokarna Prasad Dahal, Chief of the Vector-Borne Disease Branch at the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division of the Ministry of Health and Population, stated that local levels have been instructed to carry out awareness programs for the control and prevention of Dengue infection.

"It has been observed that Dengue infection decreases with awareness programs," he said, "We have already directed local levels in areas at risk of Dengue infection as the heat begins to set in to operate awareness programs."

According to the Division, Dengue infection decreased fivefold last year compared to previous years. Dengue infection in 2025 decreased fivefold compared to the 2024 ratio. In 2024, 41,865 people were diagnosed with Dengue infection, whereas in 2025, approximately five times fewer, 8,576 people, were diagnosed with Dengue infection.

Branch Chief Dr. Dahal attributed the decrease to the campaign run by the government against Dengue infection.

The government had been running a campaign every Friday in government offices to search for and destroy larvae that transmit Dengue infection. Branch Chief Dr. Dahal stated that Dengue infection control and prevention were achieved through community initiative as well.
