Over 46,000 Vaccinated in Nawalparasi Japanese Encephalitis Campaign

Nawalparasi. In Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East), 46,778 people have been vaccinated so far under the special vaccination campaign being conducted against Japanese Encephalitis. Among those vaccinated, 19,109 are male and 27,669 are female.

Keshav Chapagain, Chief of the Provincial Public Health Office Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East), stated that the campaign, conducted simultaneously in all eight local levels of the district, has shown significant progress, with 31.1 percent of the targeted population having received the vaccine service as of Tuesday. The vaccination campaign is being effectively implemented across the district. The expected achievement has been realized in collaboration with local levels.

According to Public Health Officer Pravinkumar Khanal, vaccination services are being regularly conducted in all local levels of the district. Progress in vaccination has been particularly notable in Madhyabindu Municipality and Baudikali Rural Municipality, with 49.8 percent progress in Madhyabindu and 47 percent in Baudikali.

The vaccination campaign, targeting citizens above 35 years of age, has been operational from Chaitra 1 to Chaitra 5 of this year, following a rising trend in Japanese Encephalitis infection rates in the district in recent years. The campaign aims to vaccinate approximately 150,000 citizens. Chief Chapagain urged all citizens in the target age group to mandatorily get vaccinated at the nearest vaccination center.

According to the Health Office, 15 Japanese Encephalitis cases have been identified in the district in the current fiscal year alone, resulting in six deaths. In the previous fiscal year 2079-80, seven infections were confirmed, with five deaths. In the fiscal year 2080/81, eight infections were reported, with one death. Health workers expressed confidence that the target achievement will be met as the vaccination campaign is being effectively implemented in the district.
