Nepal Elected Chair of WTO Trade and Environment Committee

Kathmandu. Nepal has been elected as the Chair of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Committee on Trade and Environment.

According to Nepal's Permanent Mission to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, the General Council meeting held on Falgun 27 unanimously elected Nepal for a one-year term as Chair.

The committee is the forum that addresses the impact of trade policies on the environment and the impact of environmental policies on trade among WTO member nations, as well as climate-related trade issues. This role, secured as Nepal is in the process of graduating from the list of Least Developed Countries, is expected to contribute to integrating Nepal's trade into the global market through close collaboration with WTO members.

Nepal's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organizations, Ram Prasad Subedi, will represent the country in the committee.
