Elected Lawmaker Harka Rai 'Sampang' Urges Against Mocking Election Losers

Kathmandu. Harka Raj Rai (Sampang), elected as a Member of the House of Representatives from Sunsari Constituency No. 1, has urged everyone not to insult or ridicule anyone over the election results. In a video message released on social media platform Facebook on Sunday, he stated that winning and losing are natural processes in democratic practice.

Sampang, the chairman of the Shram Sanskriti Party who resigned from the post of Mayor of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City to contest for the House of Representatives membership, said, “Every single vote given by the people is a symbol of trust and hope. We should not mock or insult candidates who received fewer votes by saying they lost, as they have also received a mandate from the public.”

He mentioned that participating in the election itself strengthens democracy and thanked all 26 candidates and voters in his constituency. “The election is over; now we must all work together for good governance, development, and prosperity,” he said.

Sampang also urged everyone to remain patient as the counting of votes for proportional representation is still underway.

Expressing gratitude to the state mechanisms, security personnel, and especially the independent voters who are not affiliated with any party, Sampang committed that the journey ahead will be focused on the bright future of the country.
