Nepal Cricket Association President Chatur Bahadur Chand Loses Federal Parliament Race in Baitadi

Dhangadhi. The journey of Chatur Bahadur Chand, President of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), who was vying for a seat in the Federal Parliament from Baitadi, has been halted.

He was defeated by Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) candidate Hari Mohan Bhandari by a margin of 3,940 votes. While Bhandari secured 22,134 votes to pave his way to parliament, Chand was defeated. Chand received 18,194 votes, placing him second. The Nepali Congress had nominated Chand, considering his popularity in the region after a long time. Chand, a prominent figure in the sports sector, has many supporters. Chand, who is also the President of CAN, is the President of the Nepali Congress in Baitadi. However, he fell behind while competing against RSP's Hari Mohan Bhandari.

Chand left his teaching profession to enter politics. He is a well-known leader of the Congress in Baitadi. He started his political career with the Nepal Students' Union (NSU) in 2047 BS, leading the Teachers' Union before becoming the district president of the party. During his two terms as the President of CAN, he made the success achieved by Nepali cricket his election agenda.

Although he urged voters by saying, 'Just as cricket was made successful, I will bring overall development to Baitadi,' he missed out this time.

His dream of restoring the old prestige of the Congress and raising his voice in parliament after winning the election has not been fulfilled this time.
