Rising Popularity of Badminton Among Youth in Tanahun District

Tanahun. The attraction towards the game of badminton among the youth in Tanahun is increasing. The youth have been drawn to this sport after covered halls were constructed for badminton in Damouli, the district headquarters, in Shuklaphanta Municipality's Dulegauda, Khairenitar, Gachhepani, in Bhimad Municipality's Bhimad Bazaar, and in Thapru and Dhayare of Myagde Rural Municipality.

The youth regularly gather to play badminton from morning till night during their leisure time to keep themselves healthy and fit. Players state that this sport has become the first choice for the youth.

Coach and player Bipin Ghale stated that the youth's attraction to this game has increased because it can be played in pairs of four and it causes a lot of sweating in a short time.

Player and Planning Branch Chief of Byas Municipality, Bheshraj Tiwari, mentioned that since covered halls were constructed with investment from local levels in the district, it is convenient to play regardless of the weather, sun, or time of day as it is an indoor sport. Pradip Neupane, a resident of Byas Municipality-1, said that he regularly plays badminton in his leisure time outside of office hours.

With the increasing attraction of the youth towards badminton competitions, tournaments are also being held here. Player Ramkrishna Chhetri stated that the participation of many teams in the badminton competitions confirms the growing interest in this sport.

Ward Chairman of Myagde Rural Municipality-4, Deepak Kumar Shrestha, stated that Myagde Rural Municipality has sustained the sport by constructing a covered hall with mats in Thapru and a covered hall in Dhayare.
