Department Fines Two Firms During Regular Market Inspection in Kathmandu

Kathmandu. The Department of Commerce, Supply and Consumer Protection, which conducts regular market monitoring, fined two firms on Sunday.

Following irregularities found during on-site inspection, the department fined Basbari Rice Mill located in Basbari, Kathmandu, NPR 200,000. Similarly, Jayas Anna Ghar in Kageshwori Municipality-6, Mulapani Babachowk, was fined NPR 10,000. The department stated that action was taken under Section 39 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2075, for offenses committed under Section 16 of the same Act.

The department directed Mega Mart Pvt. Ltd. and three other firms to appear within three days with documents related to their business. The department also issued corrective directives to seven other firms.

The department clarified that it is enforcing the law by regularly monitoring the market in the presence of local representatives, consumer rights activists, and stakeholders.
