Independent Power Producers Association Chair Stresses Energy Sector as Foundation for Nepal's Prosperity

Kathmandu. Ganesh Karki, Chairman of the Independent Power Producers' Association, Nepal (IPPAN), stated that the energy sector is the foundation for Nepal's prosperity.

Speaking at a private sector dialogue program with KP Sharma Oli, the candidate for Jhapa-5 and Chairman of the CPN (UML), he emphasized that investment-friendly policies and long-term stability from the government are necessary to advance hydropower and the energy sector as the main basis for development.

Karki noted that although the private sector has invested heavily in the energy sector, problems are increasing due to policy instability, negligence in license distribution, and reluctance to purchase electricity. Complaining that files have been stalled for two years, he stressed that policies should not change even if the government changes.

He stated that the trend of indiscriminately distributing licenses but not purchasing the generated electricity has put investors in crisis. While asserting that the private sector is ready to take risks and mobilize investment, he demanded that a strong and committed government create an investment-friendly environment.
