Condition of children in Province-2 worrying

Janakpur – Attention of the bodies concerned has been drawn towards the pathetic condition of children in Province 2. 


As per the result of Nepal Demographic and Health Survey, reproduction rate as well as the neo-natal, infant and child mortality rate is alarming in the province. The percentage of live birth per woman is 3.0 per cent in the province. 


Similarly, 37 per cent children below five years have been suffering from dwarfism as compared to their age as well as 59 per cent of children from six months to 59 months are found suffering from one or the other type of anaemia. 


The children in the province suffer from child labour, child marriage, sexual abuse, domestic violence, negligence, drug addiction, abortion, abduction among a multitude of problems. 


This information was shared in an interaction related to child rights organised by the Social Development Ministry of the Province 2 here today. 


On the occasion, Chief Minister Lalbabu Raut expressed the belief that those advocating for the rights of children are not aware towards the child rights. 


He said that positive thinking and change among all was necessity at a time when those trying to take laws in their hands are found active in keeping the child labourer. 


Similarly, Social Development Minister Nabal Kishor Saha said that activeness of all was must to save the children from any activities making negative impacts on their physical, mental, social, morale and intellectual development. 


Likewise, Secretary at the Ministry, Dr Kiran Rupakheti, expressed the view that all should be serious to identify the child protection issues, risk mitigation, appropriate address and respect while Executive Director of Central Child Welfare Board, Tarak Dhital, said that such problems are increasing in lack of awareness and laws.
