Finance Minister Stresses Importance of Accurate Information Flow for Economic Stability

Kathmandu. Finance Minister Rameshwor Khanal has stated that the accurate flow of information is indispensable for steering the country's economy in the right direction. Speaking at an interaction program titled 'Use of the Right to Information in Media: Practice and Challenges,' organized by the National Information Commission and the Federation of Nepali Journalists in Kathmandu on Friday, Minister Khanal warned that incorrect information could severely impact the entire economy.

He argued that instability arises in the market when correct information is not received at the right time, urging everyone to be vigilant about this issue. Commenting on the current state of the capital market, Minister Khanal expressed the view that when a few individuals monopolize information, only they benefit, while the general investors are deprived of making informed decisions.

He clarified that it is the state's responsibility to create an environment where all investors receive information equally and on time. However, he also cautioned against the tendency to engage in undesirable activities by misusing the right to information.

Minister Khanal stated that it is the state's responsibility to provide citizens with the right information for the right reasons at the right time to keep society peaceful and civilized. Recalling the significant loss of life and property in the recent youth-led protests due to unverified and unproven information, he urged for greater seriousness in information dissemination.

He emphasized that not only the media but also all organs, including constitutional bodies, parliament, and the justice system, must be equally responsible and accountable for the correct flow of information.
