Acting Chief Election Commissioner Expresses Concern Over Misuse of Technology and Social Media in Upcoming Elections

Kathmandu. Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari has expressed concern that the misuse of technology and social media could disrupt the election process in the upcoming House of Representatives elections.

He stated this during a meeting with a delegation from TikTok, assuring them that the commission is committed to taking initiatives to prevent the misuse of social media and technology in the elections.  

He emphasized the need for vigilance from all parties to prevent misuse through technology and social media. He also thanked TikTok for its cooperation in the election process.

He stated that it is significant in itself that TikTok is working with a pure intention to make the elections in Nepal successful for free. The Election Commission is trying to control misinformation, misleading content, and activities contrary to the election code of conduct by coordinating with social media platforms in the upcoming elections. In this context, the commission views the commitment and cooperation received from platforms like TikTok positively.
