Former President Bhandari Stresses Accountability and Transparency for True Tribute to Martyrs

Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari stated that making democracy accountable, transparent, and effective, thereby realizing the aspiration for a prosperous Nepal, would be the true honor for the martyrs.

In a message issued today on the occasion of Martyr's Day, 082, she paid homage to the martyrs who sacrificed their precious lives for the protection of civil liberties, democracy, and national independence.

Former President Bhandari emphasized that the democracy achieved through the sacrifice and martyrdom of martyrs like Shukraraj Shastri, Dharmabhakta Mathema, Dasharath Chand, Gangalal Shrestha, and all known and unknown martyrs should not be confined merely to structural achievements.

In a message shared on social media, she stated, "It is our collective responsibility to move forward by linking the democracy obtained through the sacrifice and martyrdom of the martyrs with good governance, social justice, and economic prosperity. I express my wish that Martyr's Day provides further energy and inspiration to realize that aspiration by everyone honestly fulfilling their respective roles."

Martyr's Day was observed across the country today with various programs.
