Consumer Protection Department Fines Kathmandu Store NPR 201,000 During Joint Market Inspection

The Department of Commerce, Supply and Consumer Protection, which regularly monitors and inspects the market, inspected 18 firms in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur in a single day.

Following discrepancies found during the inspection, New Shiva Store in Kathmandu's New Buspark area was fined an amount equivalent to NPR 201,000, the department stated. The firm was penalized in accordance with the Consumer Protection Act, 2075, and the Consumer Protection Regulation, 2076.

Similarly, Himalayun Brewery Pvt. Ltd. has been instructed to appear before the department within three days with business-related documents. The department clarified that corrective directives were issued to the other 16 firms.

The department emphasized that the market monitoring was conducted regularly in the presence of local administration, consumer rights activists, and local stakeholders.
