In rare feat, Chinese mountaineer Jing paraglides off the summit of Ama Dablam
In a rare and daring feat, Chinese climber Jing Zhang successfully climbed Ama Dablam (6,812m) and paraglided off the peak, landing safely back at Base Camp.
This adventure marks one of the very few recorded instances of paragliding from the mountain. British mountaineer Stuart Holmes is believed to have been the first to paraglide off the peak in 2009. Dawa Rinji Sherpa guided Zhang's climb. Base Camp operations werer coordinated by Pasang Phurba Sherpa, Director of Seven Summit Treks, a leading Nepal-based expedition operator. Paragliding partner for this expedition was Sano Babu Sunuwar of Welcome Paragliding Pvt. Ltd.
Jing, 32, also known as "Mars", is a professional adventurer renowned for paragliding, skydiving, and other extreme sports. His ability to merge high-altitude climbing with aerial adventure makes this climb uniquely bold. He also serves as the Beijing National Fitness & Ice and Snow Sports Promotion Ambassador, and is the founder of AG Extreme Circle China Extreme Club, and a team member of RedbullX.
