Hospital forced to undertake C-section in absence of equipment
Dune, Dolpa –The one and only district hospital in Dolpa has been carrying out surgical incisions on expectant mothers despite the lack of necessary medical equipment.
The District Hospital Dolpa has a total capacity of 15 beds. The lack of medical equipment and a physician has meant that the hospital has not been able to carry out other surgical operations.
However, the hospital has been tending to the complications in childbirth which needs cesarean section or C-section. Even in absence of necessary medical equipment the hospital has been carrying out surgical incision in mother's abdomen and uterus for delivery of the baby, according to Hospital's Information Official, Tara Bohara.
Due to lack of needed equipment the surgical incisions are done with help of employees stationed at the Outpatient Department (OPD) and such operations have highly been dependent on their experiences. The expectant mothers from the entire district visit the hospital for safer delivery options but the hospital is forced to take high risk and risk lives in absence of medical equipment needed for C-section.
The hospital management claims that the shortage of medicines in all kinds of treatment and equipment started after the formation of the local government. The district hospital is in dire straits as the daily administrative expenditures have been channelized to the local level.
