KP Oli Vows Not to Shirk His Responsibilities
KP Sharma Oli, the Chairman of the CPN-UML party, has stated that he will not give up his leadership role without completing the responsibilities on his shoulders. Speaking at the closing of the party's tenth Central Committee meeting on Friday, the former Prime Minister emphasized his commitment. He declared that he has been carrying a small piece of the movement since he was 55 years old and feels a deep sense of duty. He proposed that the matter of his resignation should be discussed at the party's national convention, where a decision would be sought from the representatives. He urged party members to move forward with friendship and not with bitterness, adding that the real criminals and weapons are outside the party.
Comments on the Current Political Situation
Oli expressed that the current changes in the political landscape are not positive. He stressed that the party should be run according to policies and procedures, not by force. He also claimed that the government led by Sushil Koirala is trying to trap him and that there are continuous attacks on his leadership and the party. He suggested that these attacks are happening because the development work and achievements under his leadership are visible and effective. He recalled hearing even harsher attacks in 1976 and 1978, advising that internal party discussions are the appropriate forum for criticism, as no one is above critique.
Unity and Future Elections
Oli asserted that there are no significant differences within the party itself. He also made a point about the appointment of the former Chief Justice, Karki, as Prime Minister, implying it was against the proper course. Regarding future elections, Oli stated that elections cannot and should not be held in the next four months, questioning why the party should participate in an election that is not supposed to happen. He strongly emphasized the need for the restoration of the parliament.
