Death Toll in Gen-Z Protests Reaches 73
The number of people who died during the Gen-Z protests has reached 73. Police Spokesperson (DIG) Vinod Ghimire confirmed this number to the media. The deaths occurred during protests that took place on the 23rd and 24th of Bhadau.
Police Personnel Among the Deceased
Three of the deceased were police officers. They have been identified as ASI Milan Rai, Assistant Havildar Amrit Gurung, and Constable Uttam Thapa.
Deaths from Police Gunfire in New Baneshwar
In the New Baneshwar area, 21 people lost their lives due to police gunfire. Some died at the scene of the protest, while others passed away while receiving treatment in the hospital. The list of deceased protesters includes Buddhibahadur Tamang, Santosh Bik, Sulabhraj Shrestha, Shriyam Chulaagain, Iswat Adhikari, Ayush Thapa Magar, Saurabh Joshi, Yog Bahadur Shrestha, Madhav Sarumagar, Bimal Babu Bhatt, Asahaw Alam Thakurai, Shauran Kishor Shrestha, Subas Kumar Bohara, Rasik Khatiwada, Vinod Maharjan, Dil Narayan Tamang, Yogendra Neupane, Chatraman Kuthumi, Ojan Budha, Avisesh Shrestha, and Mohan Sardar ‘Chankhe’.
Deaths from Looting and Arson
On the 24th of Bhadau, 38 people died during incidents of looting and arson. The bodies of 15 individuals were found in burned conditions inside the Bhatbhateni Supermarket and private homes.
Deaths in Custody
An additional 10 people died while in custody or as child detainees.
