Final Batch of Nepali Peacekeepers Returns from Iraq Mission

Kathmandu – The last group of Nepali peacekeepers serving under the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Iraq has returned home. This marks the complete withdrawal of all Nepali troops from the mission following the UN's decision to repatriate all peacekeeping personnel by the end of July 2025.

Successful Completion of Peacekeeping Duties

The final contingent of 27 Nepali peacekeepers arrived today, concluding the mission that initially deployed 88 Nepali personnel. Led by Major Himalaya Thapa, this last group's return signifies the end of Nepal's military involvement in the Iraq peacekeeping operation.

Smooth Repatriation Process

The Nepali Army confirmed that all peacekeepers have now safely returned to Nepal through four separate commercial flights. The mission's closure aligns with the UN's broader restructuring of its peacekeeping operations in the region.

Nepal continues to be one of the largest contributors to UN peacekeeping missions worldwide, with this successful completion of the Iraq assignment demonstrating the country's ongoing commitment to global peace and security. The returning personnel will undergo standard debriefing procedures before reuniting with their families.
