In pictures: Chaotic state of Babar Mahal footpath

Kathmandu, March 3 — One of the main roads in Kathmandu, the Babar Mahal section, is currently in a chaotic state under the guise of footpath improvement.

The project, aimed at making pedestrian movement easier, has come to a halt during construction.

As a result, pedestrians are now forced to walk along the roadside, putting themselves at greater risk.

The Department of Roads had dismantled the old footpath structure for the improvement work, but the construction has been left incomplete for months.

Babar Mahal is a highly congested area, located near Singha Durbar, where policymakers and senior officials frequently pass by.

The footpath is difficult to use—half of it is demolished, filled with dirt, and disorganized.

This forces pedestrians to walk on the road, further increasing the danger.

The irony is that the Department of Roads' office, responsible for road repairs and construction planning, is located in this very area.

Additionally, the Kathmandu District Court is also situated here, where citizens seeking justice pass through daily.

The lack of basic facilities for pedestrians has created inconvenience not only for the general public but also for legal professionals.

In the same area, the Nepal Electricity Authority is working on underground cable installation, an essential task.

However, the delays in this work have affected the progress of other road improvements.
