Nepal's trade deficit widens as imports surge

Kathmandu, February 20 — In the first seven months of the current fiscal year, Nepal's trade balance has shown a significant imbalance.

According to data from the Department of Customs, exports during this period have reached NPR 127 billion.

Meanwhile, imports have soared to nearly NPR 988 billion, marking a substantial increase compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year, when imports stood at NPR 897 billion and exports were at NPR 86 billion.

The department reports a steady rise in import trade, with imports increasing by 10% compared to last year’s figures for the same period.

This growing import trend has led to a deeper trade deficit, reflecting a broader economic imbalance.
