Residential doctors announce boycott of non-emergency services

Kathmandu, February 5 — Residential doctors across the country have announced a boycott of all services except emergency care starting today.

The 'Safe Workplace for Healthcare Workers Struggle Committee' issued a statement, announcing that medical officers, interns, and resident doctors in medical colleges and institutions will stop all services except for emergencies.

The committee also plans to hold a sit-in protest at Maitighar Mandala wearing white aprons, as confirmed by committee spokesperson Dr. Sanjay Baral.

In addition, protests with banners and placards will be held at health institutions outside medical colleges and establishments.

The committee has been fighting for the rights of doctors for the past eight days, raising concerns about exploitation and serious attacks on their professional dignity.

They have been protesting through the committee, advocating for the improvement of doctors' professional welfare.

Despite their commitment to patient care and conducting their protests in a dignified manner, doctors have accused the Nepal Government and the Medical Education Commission of not acting swiftly to meet their demands.

As a result, the protests have been strengthened, according to spokesperson Baral.

The committee has also requested residential doctors, medical officers, and interns to suspend all services and education, except for emergencies, and to participate in the protest centered at Maitighar.
