Claims of government change are baseless: Shekhar Koirala

Kathmandu, January 22 — Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has stated that the rumor of a change in the current government is baseless. He made this statement during a press conference organized by the Nepal Press Union in Biratnagar on Wednesday.

Koirala clarified that the government was formed based on a seven-point agreement between the Nepali Congress and the CPN (UML), and therefore, claims of a government change hold no ground.

He emphasized that the current government was formed to focus on the country’s economic development, political stability, and constitutional amendments.

He also suggested the need for the implementation of the agreement between the two parties. Koirala stated that for successful constitutional amendments, the participation and consensus of all political parties, including the Maoist Center, Madhes-based parties, and others, are essential.

Additionally, Koirala urged that the 15th General Convention of Nepali Congress be held as scheduled in November, 2025 and confirmed that he would be a candidate for the position of party president in the upcoming convention.

Koirala also expressed his opinion that while the ordinances introduced by the government were well-meaning, the process of issuing ordinances was inappropriate.
