ANNFSU (R) leadership selection through consensus hits a deadlock

Kathmandu, January 21 — The attempt to reach an agreement on the future leadership of the student organization ANNFSU (R), affiliated with the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center), has failed.

Discussions were held at the residence of Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' in Khumaltar on Tuesday, aiming to select a leader through consensus. However, as the contenders for the chairman's position remained firm in their positions, the attempt to reach an agreement failed, according to a party leader.

The leader mentioned that discussions were held with the chairman's aspirants to select a leader through consensus, but as no agreement was reached, each aspirant is now free to contest for any position they desire without the need for panel formation linked to specific leaders.

Today, Prachanda also discussed the matter with the coordinator of the student task force, Shakti Basnet, along with other contenders and leaders.

Following the failure of the discussions, the election committee has set a deadline for the election, which will be held by 6 p.m. today. The election for the leadership is scheduled for January 25.

Several leaders are vying for the position of chairman, including deputy general secretaries Bijay Prakash Sharma Sapkota, Tirsana Hamal, Yogendra Budha, Parbati Negi, Hemanta Rai, Sudin Poudel, and Bishwomani Thapa.

According to the amended constitution, members of the organizing committee can also contest for the chairmanship.
