National ID cards to be distributed at local level

Kathmandu, January 17 — Director General of the Department of National Identity and Civil Registration, Yubaraj Kattel, has announced plans to distribute national identity cards at the local level.

He shared this information during a discussion on national identity cards in the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee on Friday.

He stated, “The distribution process has been slow everywhere. We have planned to distribute the cards at the local level. We are currently testing this in Tanahun, and if successful, we will expand it nationwide.”

Kattel also mentioned that the process of collecting biometric data for the national identity cards is underway. “This includes collecting data from grandparents as well, such as their names and citizenship numbers,” he added.
