OBOR instrumental in Nepal's economic development: former PM Khanal
Kathmandu - Former Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal has said that China's One Belt One Road (OBOR) would contribute to Nepal's economic development.
At a programme organized by Nepal-China Friendship Society in the capital city on Tuesday on OBOR Initiative and Its Contribution in Economic Development of Nepal, Khanal said that the initiative would contribute in Nepal's multiple sectors.
"OBOR will cover 60 plus countries in the world, 64 per cent population and 40 per cent of world's economy. This is very important," Khanal said.
Khanal also said that OBOR has become a good opportunity for Nepal's development in the field of rail and road besides further cementing Nepal-China relations.
ON the occasion, CPN (UML) leader Dr Rajan Bhattarai said that OBOR would support in Nepal's internal road network expansion, tourism development, development of agricultural industries, information technology and hydropower sectors.
Wang Xiaolong, Political Section Chief at Embassy of China to Nepal expressed his confidence that the OBOR would help further strengthen Nepal-China relations as well as Nepal's prosperity.
Prof Ramesh Silwal of TU said that development of country's educational sector is likely from expansion of economic network in the country.
Former Ambassador of Nepal to China Mahesh Maskey said that OBOR is vital for Nepal's tourism, roads and railways development.
Former Minister Ananda Prasad Pokharel also expressed his opinion during the programme.
