In pictures: Devotees throng to Gadhimai Festival
Bara, December 9 — The famous Gadhimai Festival, held every five years in the Bariyarpur village of Mahagadhimai Municipality in Bara district, has seen animal sacrifices.
Starting from Sunday, the festival has attracted a large number of visitors for both the sacrifices and the Gadhimai Darshan (viewing of the goddess). The event is further enlivened by colorful decorations, exhibitions, entertainment through games, and trade.
The local people celebrate the festival as a grand event. The temple is becoming increasingly crowded with devotees.
As devotees from both within the country and abroad continue to visit the sacred Gadhimai Temple, the festival's popularity has been expanding.
In response to the growing crowd, the festival's main management committee has requested that most schools in the district close for five days starting from Friday. Similarly, the Madhesh government has declared a public holiday throughout the province for the sacrificial day.
