APF SI killed in hit-and-run

Siraha, December 1 — An Armed Police Force Sub-Inspector (SI) has died after being hit by an unregistered car in Siraha.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning when the car struck 48-year-old SI, Laxman Prasad Yadav, who was on patrol on the inner road of Bariyarpatti-1, near the Indian border.

According to the police, the team had received information about alcohol smuggling and was checking vehicles around 3 AM when the car hit the officer. Despite being rushed to Ram Kumar Uma Prasad Memorial Provincial Hospital in Lahan for immediate treatment, the hospital declared him dead.

Yadav, a resident of Naraha-4, Siraha, was stationed at the Badahari Base Camp.

SP Naresh Bhandari, Chief of Armed Police Force Battalion 7 in Siraha, said that the car hit Yadav while he was fleeing upon seeing a joint team of Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force.

Although reports suggested the car was carrying alcohol, the vehicle has not yet been located.

In recent days, alcohol prepared for smuggling into India has been seized from the border area.
