By-election: Congress and Maoist hold rallies in Kirtipur (photos)
Kathmandu, November 28 — The upcoming by-election on December 1 has garnered significant attention toward the mayoral race in Kirtipur Municipality.
A total of 20 candidates, including representatives from major political parties, are contesting for the position. Among them, 11 are independent candidates, reflecting strong interest from individuals outside the established party system.
Notably, the Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Nepal's fourth-largest party in the House of Representatives, has opted not to field a candidate for this position.
The competition is expected to be fierce among the three major political parties: the Nepali Congress, CPN (UML), and CPN (Maoist Center). However, the independent candidates are also seen as strong challengers, potentially disrupting the dominance of the traditional parties.
The main contenders for the mayoral seat are Krishnaman Dangol from the Nepali Congress, Dr. Surendra Manandhar from the CPN (UML), and Prof. Shivasharan Maharjan from the CPN (Maoist Center). Their campaigns have focused on addressing local issues and winning the trust of Kirtipur's voters.
On the final day of campaigning, the Nepali Congress and the CPN (Maoist Center) held election rallies targeting voters in Kirtipur. These events were marked by speeches, slogans, and a show of party support, aiming to energize their voter base before election day.
The involvement of both major party-backed and independent candidates promises an exciting and closely watched election in Kirtipur.
