Mardi trek: Popular touristic trekking route (photos)

Pokhara, November 22 — In recent years, the Mardi trekking route has gained much popularity. Known for being short and relatively easy, it attracts both domestic and international tourists. This trek, which can be completed in just four days,  is especially suitable for those with limited time. What was once a trail used by villagers to reach their grazing lands is now busy with tourists.

The old shelters have been transformed into hotels. The trek to Mardi Base Camp, located at an altitude of approximately 4,500 meters, offers a straightforward path. On the first day, trekkers can reach Low Camp (Humal) for an overnight stay, passing through Forest Camp (Koker) and Rest Camp. On the second day, they usually have lunch at Badal Hill and stay overnight at High Camp.

The next morning, tourists wake up before dawn to hike to the viewpoint, which takes about two hours, to witness the sunrise. After that, they can reach the base camp and return to High Camp for breakfast. On the third night, they descend to Low Camp for an overnight stay. By the fourth day, trekkers can comfortably return to Pokhara.

Local residents have set up hotels at various spots along the trail to cater to tourists. However, due to the lack of advanced infrastructure, essentials like food and water tend to be a bit expensive.
