BP Highway reduced to one-way traffic following mudslides
Kathmandu, November 4 — Currently, the BP Highway is operating in a one-way capacity due to mudslides caused by rainfall.
On Monday morning, continuous rain caused a mudslide in the section of the highway between Kavre Bhajyang and Bhakunde Besi, leading to the one-way operation, informed Umesh Kumar Dhakal, the Chief District Officer of Kavre.
He stated, “The rain this morning caused mud to slide down from above, blocking a section between Kavre Bhajyang and Bhakunde. Right now, traffic is being allowed in one direction. We have sent excavators to clear the mud, and it should be back to two-way operation by this evening.”
He confirmed that two-way traffic is expected to resume by Monday evening. The road section had been severely damaged during the floods following heavy rainfall in the second week of October.
Due to the damage caused just before the festival season, this section of the road could not be permanently repaired and has been temporarily reconstructed to allow for traffic.
