Update: Tragic flooding and landslides claim 244 lives; 19 missing
Kathmandu,October 6 — In the recent landslide and flooding, a total of 244 people have died, while 19 remain missing. Additionally, 179 people have been injured.
According to Home Ministry spokesperson Rishiram Tiwari, 17,174 individuals have been rescued from the affected areas, and efforts are ongoing to mobilize aid and repair blocked highways to resume transportation.
"Details of the flood and landslide victims are being collected at the local level. Once that information is gathered, the government will distribute aid for temporary housing," he said. "Local authorities have also provided food and other assistance to affected families."
The government has provided financial aid of NPR 200,000 to the families of the deceased through the District Disaster Management Fund. So far, 160 families have received such assistance.
Tiwari noted that the highest number of fatalities, 72, occurred in Kavrepalanchok, and financial support has already been provided to the relatives of 59 deceased individuals in that area.
