Tension follows cyclist's death in Biratnagar truck collision
Biratnagar, October 4 — A cyclist has died after being struck by a freight truck on the ICP Road in Biratnagar-18, leading to protests from the victim's relatives demanding action against the driver and compensation for the family.
The protesters have obstructed traffic on the road, prompting police to use force to control the situation. According to Morang DSP Bed Joshi, the police fired 10 rounds of tear gas to disperse the crowd as they attempted to enter the ICP area.
The incident occurred on Thursday at 6:45 PM when a truck (NA 4 Kha 2483) heading towards the ICP hit 60-year-old Shyam Sah, a cyclist from Lwaghad, Biratnagar-18. Although he was rushed to Birat Nursing Home for treatment, he was pronounced dead by doctors around 7:30 PM.
The police have apprehended the truck driver, 30-year-old Dipak Yadav from Barju Rural Municipality-5 in Sunsari. The truck and driver are currently in custody at the Area Police Office in Rani.
