Joint bench recuses itself from Durga Prasai's habeas corpus proceedings

Kathmandu, September 30 — The next hearing for the habeas corpus writ of Durga Prasai, a medical entrepreneur and coordinator of the Nationality, Religion, Culture, and Citizen Rescue Campaign, has been scheduled. Today, the case was presented before a joint bench that declared it "not permissible to view" and subsequently recused itself from the proceedings.

On Monday, the case was heard by Judges Hari Prasad Phuyal and Balakrishna Dhakal, and the next hearing has been scheduled for Tuesday.

Durga Prasai's son, Nirajan Prasai, filed a habeas corpus petition, alleging that his father has been unlawfully detained.

In the petition, on October September 24, Judge Prakashman Singh Raut's single bench issued a show-cause order against the respondents after an initial hearing of the petition.

Prasai was arrested by the police a week ago, and it has been reported that he is under investigation for cybercrime.

A protest demanding Durga Prasai's release has been organized at Maitighar.
