Five killed in Solukhumbu landslides
Solukhumbu, September 29 — A landslide in Solukhumbu has claimed the lives of five people after two houses were swept away. The incidents occurred at separate locations in Solududhkunda Municipality, wards 9 and 10.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Dwarikaprasad Ghimire from the District Police Office, the deceased include 23-year-old Lhamu Sherpa from Solududhkunda-2, who had returned to her maternal home in Solududhkunda-9, her seven-month-old son Furba Lhopasang Sherpa, and 29-year-old Rina Tamang from the same municipality.
The landslide destroyed the stone and mud house of local resident Dimadawa Sherpa, resulting in the deaths of Lhamu, her son Furba, and Rina. Additionally, 62-year-old Yangji Sherpa was injured in the incident and is currently receiving treatment at Wangchu Memorial Hospital in Solududhkunda-10.
In another instance, landslides swept away a house in Solududhkunda Municipality-10, leading to the deaths of 33-year-old Kabita Magar and 24-year-old Rupu Magar. DSP Ghimire confirmed that continuous rainfall caused a one-story wooden house with a stone and mud roof, owned by Tekbahadur Magar in Chailung, to collapse, resulting in their fatalities.
