Deuba highlights opposition's role to strengthen democracy
Kathmandu - Nepali Congress (NC) President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said the role of opposition in the parliament was significant for strengthening democracy.
Speaking at an orientation programme organised by the party for Federal Parliament and State Assembly members here today,he expressed hope that party's presence in the parliament as the main opposition would be more effective than in the government. The NC that had been fighting for democracy in the country since 1950 now got the responsibility of doing its role as the opposition in the Federal Parliament and State Assembly and thus institutionalising and strengthening federal democratic republic system.
Party senior leader Ramchandra Poudel and general secretary Dr Shashanka Koirala who also addressed the programme stressed the need of a responsible and effective role of the party as the opposition in the parliament to further consolidate democracy.
A total of 189 members representing the party in the Federal Parliament and State Assembly are present in the day-long orientation.
