Disaster claims 66 lives, 79 individuals still missing

Kathmandu, September 28 — After three days of continuous rainfall, floods, landslides, and inundation have resulted in the deaths of 66 people by this evening.

According to the Armed Police Force Nepal, as of 5 PM, there have been 66 confirmed deaths across the country, with 79 individuals reported missing. So far, 35 people have been injured due to the disasters, as stated by Armed Police Force spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General Kumar Nepali.

In the Kathmandu Valley alone, 34 fatalities have been reported, including 11 in Kathmandu, 5 in Bhaktapur, and 18 in Lalitpur. Additionally, deaths have been reported in various districts: 5 in Panchthar, 2 in Dhankuta, 2 in Solukhumbu, 1 in Sunsari, 14 in Kavre, 1 in Dhading, 4 in Sindhupalchowk, and 3 in Dolakha.

There are also 79 people missing, with 15 from Lalitpur, 26 from Kavre, 6 from Kathmandu, 7 from Makwanpur, 3 from Dolakha, 4 from Jhapa, 5 from Panchthar, and 5 from Sindhupalchowk, among others. More than 2,000 people have been rescued so far, and over 200 houses have been reported damaged.

Nepal Police spokesperson SSP Bishwo Adhikari stated that rescue operations are ongoing with the collaboration of security agencies and organizations involved in the rescue efforts. Over 10,000 security personnel from Nepal Police have been deployed for rescue operations, with a similar number of teams from the Armed Police also mobilized.
