Helicopter rescue requested for 33 stranded in Sindhuli floods
Sindhuli, September 28 — The Ministry of Home Affairs has received a request for a helicopter rescue of 33 individuals stranded due to flooding in Dumja, Sindhuli. The District Administration Office made the appeal for the rescue of these individuals, who have been trapped since Friday.
According to Assistant Chief District Officer Krishna Mani Phuyal, the flooding, caused by continuous rainfall since Thursday night, has affected 33 teachers and students between the Roshi and Sunkoshi rivers. The stranded individuals are from the Kusheshwar Mahadev Gurukul, located in Sunkoshi Rural Municipality-1.
The floodwaters from the Sunkoshi river, which flows behind the temple, and the Roshi river in front have created the crisis.
The students and teachers are unable to leave the Gurukul, which is situated in an area surrounded by rivers. While the Roshi river's water level is decreasing, the Sunkoshi river continues to rise, although the temple itself remains safe, as it is situated well above river levels.
Efforts are underway to ensure their safety, and police have been deployed to assist in the rescue.
A written request for the operation has been submitted, with plans to commence as soon as weather conditions improve. Given the difficulties associated with rope and other materials for rescue, a helicopter has been formally requested.
