Six dead, 14 missing in Bagmati due to floods and landslides

Hetauda, September 28 — Six people have died due to floods and landslides in Bagmati Province. According to the Bagmati Provincial Police Office in Hetauda, the fatalities occurred within the last 24 hours as a result of the flooding and landslides.

The police informed that five people died due to landslides, while one lost their life in the flooding. Deputy Superintendent of Police Jitendra Basnet from the provincial police office informed that the casualties occurred in Kavre, Sindhuli, and Sindhupalchok due to landslides and flooding caused by rain starting Thursday.

He stated that one person died in Sindhuli while crossing a river, three in Kavre due to landslides, and two in Sindhupalchok. Additionally, ten people are missing in Kavre due to the floods and landslides, with three missing in Dhading and one in Makwanpur, totaling 14 missing individuals.

The floods and landslides have completely damaged 18 physical structures in the province, with one sustaining partial damage. According to him, one structure was completely destroyed in Makwanpur, 17 in Kavre, and one house in Rasuwagadhi suffered partial damage. A bus and a motorcycle were also damaged due to the flooding and landslides.

Four locations at risk of flooding and landslides have been evacuated, with 107 families relocated. He mentioned that 100 families from three houses in Chitwan and seven families from one house in Dolakha have been moved to safer locations.

Deputy Superintendent Basnet noted that five houses in Kavre and one in Dolakha are at high risk of flooding and landslides. According to the Bagmati Provincial Police Office in Hetauda, 120 police personnel have been deployed for search and rescue operations in areas affected by flooding and landslides and those at high risk.

To manage the risks associated with flooding and landslides, police have been mobilized in Makwanpur (10), Chitwan (20), Dhading (10), Kavre (50), Dolakha (10), and Sindhuli (15).
