Power outages in half of Kathmandu Valley
Kathmandu, September 28 — Continuous heavy rainfall has disrupted electricity supply in many areas. The supply has been affected due to damage to the infrastructure of the electricity transmission and distribution system caused by the rain.
According to spokesperson of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Chandan Kumar Ghosh, electricity supply has been impacted in half of the Kathmandu Valley. He stated that while the usual electricity demand in the valley is around 400 megawatts, it was only about 200 megawatts on Saturday.
Feeders supplying electricity from the Baneshwor substation to areas like Godawari, Imadol, and Lubhu and Chyasel have been affected. Feeders supplying electricity to Khopasi, Nalinchok, and Bode from the Bhaktapur substation have been shut down.
Similarly, feeders supplying power to Khumaltar, Imadol, Satdobato, Godawari, Hattiban, Chapagaun, Khokana, Chakrapath, Harisiddhi, Radio Nepal, and Lubhu from the Patan substation have also been closed.
The Gairhidhara feeder supplied by the Lainchaur substation is down. Feeders from the Teku substation supplying Kirtipur, Bagmati, Tahachal, Sundhara, Kalimati, Chakrapath, and Chamati have been affected.
Feeders from the New Chabahil substation supplying Handigaun and Kalopul, as well as those from the Syuchatar substation supplying Kalanki and Balambu Ropeway, are also impacted.
Spokesperson Ghosh stated that teams have been deployed to restore electricity supply as quickly as possible. However, he mentioned that it is challenging to restore power due to flooding in many areas and rising river levels.
