Floods in Kathmandu rivers reach dangerous levels
Kathmandu, September 27 — Floods in rivers flowing through the Kathmandu Valley have reached dangerous levels as of Friday. According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the Bagmati River at Khokana, Gaurighat, and Balkhu has crossed the danger threshold.
Additionally, floods in the Balambu and Bishnumati rivers have also surpassed danger levels at Gongabu Bus Park. The department has urged residents in those areas to remain vigilant due to rising water levels. The Kathmandu Metropolitan City also issued a warning on Friday for residents near rivers to take precautions.
Heavy rainfall has been ongoing in most parts of the country since Thursday night and is expected to continue until Sunday. Significant rainfall has been recorded in the central and eastern Terai regions, leading to flooding in areas like Jhapa and Morang.
On Friday, notable rainfall measurements include 297.4 mm at Chandragadhi Airport, 234.8 mm in Anarmani, 268.4 mm in Ilam's Kankai, and 194 mm at Biratnagar Airport. Other significant totals include 153.6 mm in Udayapur and 144 mm in Rupani, Saptrari.
Due to the rainfall, the Mugling-Kathmandu and Tistung/Palung-Kathmandu road sections are obstructed.
