Bar Association stages sit-in outside, Judicial Council meeting ongoing inside

Kathmandu, September 27 — The Nepal Bar Association has begun a sit-in protest at the premises of the Judicial Council following the council's meeting to discuss the appointment of judges.

The protest started at 10 AM, coinciding with the council's discussions regarding judge nominations.

Bar Association President Gopal Krishna Ghimire stated that they are protesting against the unconstitutional attempt to forcibly appoint judges.

The Bar initiated its protest with slogans after the council called a meeting to discuss names for judicial appointments, led by Chief Justice Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, who is set to retire soon.

The council is preparing to appoint six judges to the Supreme Court and 16 judges to the High Court.
