NRB reports foreign exchange reserves at $15.58 billion

Kathmandu, September 26 — The Nepal Rastra Bank has released data showing that foreign exchange reserves amounted to $15.58 billion as of the end of Shrawan (July-August).

This is an increase from $15.27 billion at the end of the previous fiscal year 2023/24. The bank reported a 2% rise in dollar reserves over the past month. In Nepali rupees, this reserve is equivalent to NPR 20 trillion 41 billion 10 million.

Of the total foreign exchange reserves, NPR 18 trillion 83 billion 42 million is held by the Nepal Rastra Bank. At the end of Shrawan, it was NPR 18 trillion 48 billion 55 million. Other financial institutions hold NPR 2 trillion 8 billion 79 million.

The share of the Indian currency in the total foreign exchange reserves is 22.6%.

Based on the imports for the first month of the fiscal year 2024/25, the foreign exchange reserves with the banking sector are sufficient to cover 16.7 months of merchandise imports and 13.5 months of goods and services imports, according to the Nepal Rastra Bank.
