SC judge recommendations stall as Judicial Council fails to reach consensus

Kathmandu, September 23 — The meeting of the Judicial Council, convened to recommend vacant judges for the Supreme Court and High Court, has ended without any conclusion. A council member reported that the meeting, led by Chief Justice Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha on Monday, concluded without making any decisions.

The council meeting was called by Chief Justice Shrestha to appoint six judges to the Supreme Court and sixteen to the High Court. The discussions about judge appointments took place from 3 PM to 5 PM on Monday.

The council includes Law Minister Ajaykumar Chaurasiya and Supreme Court's senior most judge Prakashman Singh Raut as members. Additionally, Ram Prasad Shrestha, and Ram Prasad Bhandari are other members of the council.

Due to a lack of consensus among the members, they were unable to appoint judges today, and the meeting will reconvene another day, as reported by the member. The council also met on Sunday, where there was an agreement to continue the discussions.
