New Road footpath expansion nears completion (photos)
Kathmandu, September 22 — The expansion of the footpath on New Road has reached its final stages. After multiple disputes, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s footpath expansion project in Ward 24 is now nearing completion.
The metropolitan authorities were able to proceed with the footpath expansion after receiving an interim order from Patan High Court that allowed them to ignore a letter from the Division Road Office, which had requested a halt to the project.
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City had already begun breaking up the asphalt on the road for the footpath expansion. However, the Division Road Office intervened, seizing materials and blocking the asphalt that had been removed by the municipality.
After repeated conflicts with the road division office, local wards, and residents, the footpath in this area has finally become wider.
